From volunteering to work with children from low income families to ending a hike at one of the country’s most gorgeous waterfalls, the Union College Men’s Soccer team truly made the most of their time in Costa Rica!
There were also plenty of matches added to the team’s custom itinerary to keep them challenged during their stay!
Every soccer trip is custom designed by the team at Costa Rica Soccer Tours to fit the needs of the teams we work with. No two tours are ever the same, just like no two teams are the same.
Union College’s team was looking for a trip that would challenge them in more ways than one. Their visit to Costa Rica included community service projects at a local children’s center, an educational hike through the rainforest to study the flora and fauna (capped off with a zip-line ride across the canopy!) and a walking tour of historic San José.
One of the most memorable moments was a cultural dinner, which the team shared after their trip to San José. They visited a local restaurant serving Costa Rican dishes and offering a stunning view of the city at night. The food was marvelous, and the team was entertained by traditional Costa Rican dancers. They were even got a chance to try some of the Latin moves themselves!
During their nine days in Costa Rica, the team competed in four “friendly matches” against local soccer players. The players commented on the differing style of play in Costa Rica and the passion with which the Ticos live the sport. The Union College men enjoyed the games as much as they did the excursions!
According to Union College’s Coach Jeff Guinn, “Costa Rica Soccer Tours understands what a Division I team needs versus what a small Division III team needs…they’ve been doing it for a long time!”
